Fairfield County resident Erin Heneghan, age 47, of Newtown, was seriously injured on Monday, Nov. 20, around 9 a.m. in Easton in the area of Sherwood Drive.

Following the incident, a preliminary investigation determined that the pickup truck had been driving north on Route 59 when a large deer entered the road from the right and was struck by the vehicle, according to Easton Police Chief Richard Doyle.

This sent it airborne into the SUV, which had been traveling south on Route 59.

Doyle said the deer entered the passenger compartment of the 2015 Honda Pilot driven by Heneghan.

The deer went through the driver’s side windshield, struck Heneghan, continued through the interior, and was ejected from the vehicle through the rear window.

Heneghan was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with serious injuries.

On Tuesday, Nov, 21, she was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained from the motor vehicle accident, the chief said.

The investigation is ongoing.
